Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party, was inaugurated as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister for the fourth time on Wednesday, June 12. The ceremony, held near Gannavaram Airport in Kesarapalli on the outskirts of Vijayawada, was attended by prominent figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Besides Naidu, others who took the oath included Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan, Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, and 22 others. Kalyan is reportedly offered the deputy chief minister’s position, with Janasena being given three cabinet seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party one.
The Andhra Pradesh assembly, consisting of 175 members, permits a cabinet of 26 ministers, including the Chief Minister. Naidu was elected as the leader by the Telugu Desam Legislature Party and NDA partners in separate meetings on Tuesday, June 11. During these meetings, Naidu reaffirmed his commitment to developing Amaravati as the state’s sole capital and expressed gratitude for the cooperation received. Notable personalities such as Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, and actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna also graced the event at Gannavaram Mandal, Kesarapalli IT Park.
Naidu, who initially assumed office as Chief Minister in 1995, has served two additional terms. His first two terms were in united Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004, while his third term followed the state’s bifurcation. After emerging as the first Chief Minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Naidu served until 2019, following which he assumed the role of opposition leader until 2024. His return as Chief Minister for the fourth term follows a significant victory in the 2024 elections, defeating the YSRCP. The NDA secured a sweeping victory in the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections, winning 164 of the 175 assembly seats and 21 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats.
Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s re-election as Chief Minister marks a pivotal moment for Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape. With his extensive experience and vision for development, Naidu’s leadership promises continued progress and prosperity for the state. The overwhelming victory of the NDA in the recent elections underscores the confidence and support of the people. As Naidu embarks on his fourth term, the expectations are high, and the challenges ahead will require collaborative efforts and innovative solutions. With unity and dedication, Andhra Pradesh is poised to achieve new heights under Naidu’s stewardship.
