India Votes : 2024 Lok Sabha Election Results : BJP’s Third Term Secured

2024 Lok Sabha Election Results

The Indian Election Commission has announced the winners in 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. There are 240 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and 99 seats won by the Indian National Congress. The Lok Sabha has 543 members, but the results were only released for 542 places because Mukesh Dalal, the BJP candidate from Surat, won without any opposition.

BJP’s third term in a row

With a majority in the Lok Sabha, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is going to form the government for a third term in a row. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in charge. This happened after a very heated election that was seen as a vote on Modi’s leadership. The BJP’s 240 seats aren’t enough to give them a 272–27% majority, but the NDA alliance has passed the halfway point with help from important allies.

BJP’s Performance Compared to Previous Elections

The BJP got 303 seats in 2019 and 282 seats in 2014. To form the government this time, it needs the help of its allies in the NDA. The number of seats won by BJP candidates, who ran on strong support for Modi, has dropped significantly.

NDA Coalition Partners

Coalition partners of the NDA, such as N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), were very important in getting more than half of the seats. The NDA easily beat the 273-seat mark with the help of the TDP winning 16 seats in Andhra Pradesh and the JD(U) winning 12 seats in Bihar.

Gains for Congress and the Opposition

The Congress, which is part of the opposition INDIA bloc, did better than expected, getting 99 seats compared to 52 in 2019. The BJP’s share has gone down in key states like Rajasthan and Haryana because of this rise. The Samajwadi Party won 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh, and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) went from 22 to 29 seats in West Bengal, both of which are big wins for the opposition. In West Bengal, the BJP lost 12 seats, down from 18 seats in the last election.

Mixed Results for the BJP in the Elections

There were big losses for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, which have always been bases for the party. But the party made big wins in states like Odisha, Telangana, and Kerala. Overall, the party had a mixed election across the country.

Insights into the states: BJP won and lost seats in Odisha, Telangana, and Kerala

The BJP won 19 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha. This is a big win that shows how powerful the party is becoming in the state. The BJP also made progress in Telangana, picking up a number of seats that show the political scene is changing. Kerala has always been a stronghold for left-leaning parties. The BJP did well there, though, winning a few important seats that made its position known.

Not so good news in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan

On the other hand, the BJP lost a lot of seats in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. In these areas, which used to be strongholds for the BJP, the party’s vote share and seat count went down, which shows that the party needs to look at itself and change its approach.

What the future holds for the BJP and NDA coalition and the formation of a government

The BJP won’t be able to get a majority by itself, so how the NDA alliance works will be very important for keeping things stable. How well the NDA does in the next term will depend on how well it works with its regional partners and how well it includes them in central decision-making.

What the new government should focus on ?

People expect the new government to put job growth, economic recovery, and social welfare programs at the top of its list of priorities. To speed up India’s growth and raise people’s living standards, infrastructure development, digital transformation, and agricultural reforms are likely to be some of the main areas of attention.

Conclusion

The results of the 2024 Lok Sabha election show that India’s politics are always changing. The BJP’s ability to win 240 seats, even though it fell short of a majority, shows that it is still important in Indian politics. The opposition’s comeback and the strength of the NDA’s alliance show that democracy is alive and well. As Prime Minister Modi gets ready for his third term, the main focus will be on keeping vows and figuring out how to run India as a coalition government.
